From Discard to Innovation: Repurposing Battery Waste for a Greener Future

Black Mass

Battery materials play critical role towards sustainable solutions for a cleaner tomorrow.

Lithium-ion batteries reach the end of their life cycle and are no longer functional or useful, they become electronic waste or e-waste. To recycle lithium-ion batteries and recover valuable materials like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and other metals, the batteries are typically shredded into small pieces. This shredded material is called “Black Mass.”

Utilising our exclusive and proprietary methodology, we meticulously extract the Black Mass from discarded Li-ion batteries, achieving an exceptionally high degree of purity with impurities measuring less than 1%

The Challenge

The Increasing demand for Lithium-ion battery materials is rapidly rising and is projected to reach 7,500,000 metric tonnes by 2030, primarily driven by the Electric Vehicle industry.

Shortages of Rare Earth metals: With the current scarcity of Rare Earth metals, there are concerns about meeting the escalating demand.

Environmental impact: Traditional mining processes to extract these materials have significant environmental consequences, making it imperative to find an alternative, eco-friendly solution.

Waste Management: Discarded batteries often end up in landfills, taking up valuable space and contributing to the growing waste management problem.

The Solution

Recycling used Lithium-ion cells is becoming a practical and sustainable approach to meet the growing demand for battery materials.

Reducing dependence on mining: By actively recycling and extracting metals from discarded cells, we can reduce the reliance on environmentally damaging mining practices, thus mitigating their negative impact.

Establishing a Circular Economy: Implementing recycling initiatives will reintroduce valuable resources back into the market, promoting a circular flow of materials, and paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious economy.

Economic Value: The recovered metals from black mass have economic value, and recycling battery waste can create a new stream of revenue while also reducing waste management costs.

About us

Who We Are

We are the catalysts of change

At Recabon Tech, we are the catalysts of change, driven by a mission to forge a truly Circular Economy. Our purpose is clear: to extract and reclaim Rare Earth metals, including Black Mass, Lithium, Cobalt, Nickel, and Manganese, from used Lithium-ion cells. Through our dedicated efforts, these precious resources find new life in the manufacturing of Lithium-ion batteries, completing the circle of sustainability. As the essence of Circularity echoes through our actions, we embark on a journey to redefine the future of electronic waste management and secure a greener, brighter tomorrow for all.
